Rules for participation:

1. Resident or Medical Student: To be eligible for the competition, the first author and principal investigator of each abstract submitted must be a resident or a medical student at an accredited institution.

 

2. Deadline for submission • The electronic abstracts will be accepted until June 29th, 2014 â€¢ No late submissions will be accepted

 

3. All abstracts must be submitted in English or Spanish.

Abstract Format:



1. Use 12-point Times New Roman (or similar) type. Limit text to 2,500 characters, including spaces, and single space all text in the body of the abstract. Title not included in word count.



2. Do not indent the title and capitalize only the first letter of each word in the title, no abbreviations. Underline author names continuously. Include institution, city, and state where research was performed. Omit institutional appointments, street addresses, and ZIP codes.



3. Use of abbreviations —A special or unusual abbreviation should be placed in parentheses after the first appearance of the full word it represents. Numerals rather than words should indicate numbers, except in the beginning of sentences.



4. Structuring the abstract — The abstract should be divided by: Objectives, Methods, Results and Conclusions. Each should include:



  • Objectives: statement of the purpose of the study or the pre-study hypothesis, brief introduction summarizing past work or relevant controversies that demonstrate the importance and relevance of the study.

  • Methods: brief statement of the methods used, information about  the study design, setting, sample size, subjects, interventions and observations.

  • Results: summary of the results including sufficient detail to support the conclusions presented.

  • Conclusions: Conclusions should be concisely stated and strongly supported by the data presented. Include all important limitations.

Research Competition

Abstracts can be submitted at any time before the submission deadline, research must be original and relevant to emergency medicine, trauma and / or intensive care presentation will be valid for any research in these fields. All abstracts that meet the guidelines will be accepted, will be reviewed and ranked for oral presentation or poster. Five (5) abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. Poster presentations will be grouped by topic and will be planned for the program rounds during oral presentations 10 minutes will be allowed. Abstracts blinded to authors will be reviewed. Notification of acceptance and level of presentation will be mailed.
