Dr. Mulligan is an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine University of Maryland and Director of International Emergency Medicine Department (IEM) Program teacher. From 2006 to 2010, lived in the Netherlands and directed two emergency departments and EM residencies. He is an extraordinary Professor / Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a board member of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (PEFR) and the immediate past president of ACEP Section for IEM. He is also Chairman and Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science / Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. His training includes a medical degree (MD) from Rush Medical College and a business degree (MBA) from the JL Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

 

He is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Zun was COO and acting CEO for a 200 bed hospital in Chicago. The research interests of Dr. Zun include administering health, violence prevention and behavioral emergencies.

James K. Palma, MD, MPH Assistant Professor Director of Ultrasound in Medical Education Combat Course Director for medical skills

Dr. Palma is an emergency medicine physician currently serving the U.S. Navy, stationed at the Uniformed Services University (USU) F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine. His other duty stations have included service as a medical officer on an aircraft carrier (USS George Washington, CVN-73), Naval Portsmouth (Virginia) Medical Center, and the U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka (Japan). Also completed a fellowship in emergency ultrasound two years (Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina), and is currently putting in place a curriculum vertical ultrasound for medical students at USU.

Jose G. Cabanas, MD, MPH, FACEP Deputy Medical Director Austin-Travis County EMS

Dr. Jose G. Cabanas is a board-certified emergency medicine and EMS physician with a special focus on prehospital systems of care and resuscitation. Dr. Cabanas currently serves as Deputy Medical Director for Austin/Travis County EMS System since 2011. He is a native of Puerto Rico, where he served nearly a decade in EMS in a wide variety of positions including EMS Communications Specialist, General Operations Supervisor for Puerto Rico 911 Emergency Services, Aeromedical Flight Coordinator and as a field provider with First Response EMS (FREMS).

 

Dr. Cabanas received his Doctor of Medicine with High Honors at Ross University School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Puerto Rico, where he served as Chief Resident. In 2008, he completed an Internship in Health Policy at George Washington University in Washington, DC and was awarded the Jean Hollister EMS National Award, given annually to one member of the Emergency Medicine Resident's Association for sustained contributions to the field of EMS through teaching, scholarship and service.
